The Boeing BBJ 737 MAX 7 is a heavily modernized variant of the original BBJ1, which was based on the 737-700 platform. Part of Boeing’s BBJ MAX family, the MAX 7 offers the smallest footprint among MAX-based BBJs but delivers the longest range, building on Boeing’s long-standing 737-based business jet lineage introduced in 1996.
Production of the 737 MAX 7 began in 2019, following the first flight of the commercial 737 MAX 7 in March 2018. The BBJ MAX 7 remains in active production, with deliveries occurring after VIP interior completions at designated centers.
Key engineering improvements include the installation of CFM LEAP-1B engines, which provide double-digit fuel efficiency gains compared to the previous generation. A recontoured nacelle and advanced split-tip winglets contribute to reduced drag and extended range. The MAX 7 platform also benefits from structural strengthening, a redesigned tailcone, and weight-reduction modifications, which raise its maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) to approximately 177,000 pounds.
These upgrades enable a maximum range of approximately 6,600 nautical miles—a 14% improvement over the original BBJ1—thanks in part to the capacity for up to 10 auxiliary fuel tanks. The flight deck also receives updated avionics with large-format displays and improved flight management systems derived from Boeing’s 787 program.
Cabin design sees a major leap, offering a spacious 884 square feet of floor area and a total volume of approximately 7000 cubic feet. Operators can incorporate full staterooms, conference areas, lounges, and VIP lavatories with shower capabilities, all within a fully pressurized cabin that maintains a 6,500-foot cabin altitude at FL410.
With unmatched global range, high dispatch reliability, and a fully customizable interior, the BBJ MAX 7 is positioned as a premier long-range business platform for heads of state, governments, and high-net-worth individuals demanding maximum endurance in a compact ultra-VIP configuration.
