The BBJ 737 MAX 9 is a long-range executive adaptation of Boeing’s 737 MAX 9 commercial platform. It continues the BBJ family lineage launched in 1998, which reconfigures Boeing’s narrowbody airliners for private, governmental, and corporate VIP operations. Building upon the original BBJ2, the BBJ MAX 9 represents a major platform redesign over the NG-based variants, incorporating the more advanced 737 MAX architecture.
Production of the 737 MAX 9 began in 2017, with the BBJ MAX 9 variant introduced shortly after. The BBJ MAX 9 benefits from multiple structural and systems upgrades, including CFM LEAP-1B engines, updated winglets, and new flight deck avionics based on Boeing’s latest commercial standards. These changes result in a lower fuel burn and extended range performance.
The BBJ MAX 9 offers a maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) of approximately 194,700 lbs, a maximum range of 6,515 nautical miles (with auxiliary fuel tanks), and a typical high-speed cruise of Mach 0.79. Compared to earlier BBJ models, it offers improved fuel efficiency and increased mission flexibility for intercontinental operations.
The cabin spans nearly 107 feet in length, allowing for a variety of tailored layouts including conference areas, master suites, and lounges. The total cabin volume is approximately 8,600 cubic feet, making it one of the most spacious in its class. The aircraft typically seats 8 to 25 passengers in VIP configuration, excluding crew.
With its extended range, modern avionics, and expansive interior, the BBJ MAX 9 is positioned for head-of-state, corporate, and ultra-long-range private missions where range, cabin space, and reliability are paramount.
