The Dash 8-Q400 is a 70-passenger regional turboprop. It is the largest of the Dash 8 family. The Q400 is a stretched version of the Q300 and uses the same nose and vertical tail but the wing and horizontal tail are new. Two Pratt & Whitney PW 150A engines power the Dash 8-Q400.
The “Q” series incorporates Bombardier’s “Quiet” technology, known as the Noise and Vibration Suppression (NVS) system. The vibration and noise generated by the aircraft is actively monitored and partially cancelled out by counter-vibrations generated by onboard systems. This is supposed to lead to jet levels of quietness at turboprop prices. The Dash 8-Q400 offers a large stand-up cabin with the Dash 8's payload and range flexibility.
