The Cessna 404 Titan was a stretched Cessna 402B with a different tail plane and landing gear. It has a higher gross weight than the 402B. Two 375 hp Continentals power the 404. The engines can be costly to overhaul and preventative maintenance and careful, by the book, operation of the engines is essential. The Cessna 404 is a Cessna 402C with more power and a higher gross weight. Almost 400 Cessna 404s were produced from 1977 to 1981.
The Cessna 404 typically seats seven in executive configuration, or 10 in commuter seating configuration. With an easily removable interior and cargo door, swapping between people and cargo hauling is simple. Load carrying is why people generally acquire a Cessna 404—speed is secondary. The handling is reported to be stable and unremarkable.
