The Cessna 182 JT-A is a T182T with a compression-ignition SMA engine which runs on Jet A and other improvements.
The Cessna 182 is the next step up in size and performance from the Cessna 172. The 182 is a Cessna 180 with tricycle gear. Owners who wanted a lot more room and a little more speed from their Cessna 172 would naturally look at the 182 next. As with the Cessna 172, the Cessna 182 is excellent at being ordinary and, with over 22,000 built, this was key to its success. The 182 first flew in 1955, stopped production in 1986, and re-entered production in 1997. In 2001, Cessna re-introduced the turbocharged Skylane.
A 227 hp SMA SR305-230 diesel engine powers the 182 JT-A. This new engine burns 30–40 percent less fuel than the Avgas-powered version, and addresses concerns about 100LL fuel availability in the global market. Pilot workload is reduced with the use of a single lever for power control, and the time between overhauls (TBO) is currently 2,400 hours.
