Cub Crafters is best known for building Piper Cub replicas in the light sport aircraft corner of the market. The company has produced many supplementary type certificate (STC) modications for older Cubs. Cub Crafters Top Cub is an FAA part 23 certified airplane with an 180 hp Lycoming O-360-C4P engine driving either a wood or metal propeller. Cub Crafters experience in maintaining Super Cubs helped them to develop the Top Cub and address any “short comings’ of the Super Cub. Improvement over the original includes a stronger wing with more ribs, 26G safety seats and better visibility. The Top Cub was certified on December 16, 2004.
A considerable list of options are available including, floats, skis, IFR package, auto gas STC, wood or metal propeller, cargo pod, several tire options (from standard 8.5 inch tires to 35 inch tundra tires) and leather seats.
