The Sikorsky S-92A+ is an upgraded variant of the widely used S-92A medium-lift helicopter, designed to meet evolving civil and government mission requirements. Building on the proven airframe of the original S-92A, the A+ version introduces a suite of enhancements aimed at improving performance, reliability, and safety for offshore transport, search and rescue (SAR), and VIP missions.
The S-92A+ incorporates Phase IV main gearbox upgrades that significantly improve durability and extend time between overhaul intervals. It also features the MATRIX™ technology suite—a foundation for future autonomy—including an advanced flight control computer with greater processing power and system redundancy. These upgrades are compatible with existing S-92A aircraft via retrofit, allowing current operators to modernize their fleets cost-effectively.
Powered by two General Electric CT7-8A turboshaft engines, the S-92A+ offers a maximum cruise speed of approximately 151 knots and a maximum takeoff weight of 27,700 pounds. The aircraft supports missions with up to 19 passengers in standard transport configuration, excluding crew. Its spacious cabin offers flexibility for a wide range of commercial and parapublic operations, including SAR and EMS layouts.
Originally entering service in 2004 as the S-92A, the upgraded S-92A+ variant was introduced in 2020 and is currently in production. Known for its robust construction, FAA/EASA Part 29 certification, and compliance with the latest safety standards (including flaw-tolerant design and rigorous offshore safety requirements), the S-92A+ is a leading choice for critical missions in the most demanding environments.
