The Cessna Citation M2, introduced in 2013, is a light business jet developed as a modernized evolution of the Citation Mustang and CitationJet (CJ) lineage. Based on the CitationJet/M2 platform, the M2 integrates aerodynamic refinements, a higher-thrust engine package, and advanced cockpit technology to meet the needs of private owners and corporate operators seeking a balance of speed, efficiency, and short-field capability.
Production of the M2 began in late 2013 following FAA certification that same year. The aircraft is powered by two Williams International FJ44-1AP-21 turbofan engines, each producing 1,965 pounds of thrust, enabling a maximum cruise speed of 404 knots and a range of approximately 1,550 nautical miles. The airframe incorporates a straight-wing design optimized for low- to mid-altitude efficiency, while the cockpit is equipped with the Garmin G3000 avionics suite for enhanced situational awareness and reduced pilot workload.
Key performance improvements over earlier CJ variants include a 41,000 ft maximum operating altitude, improved climb rates, and reduced operating costs through updated engine management systems. The M2 also offers a balanced field length of approximately 3,250 feet, improving accessibility to smaller airports.
The cabin is configured to seat up to seven passengers in a typical executive arrangement, featuring a center-club seating layout, improved LED lighting, and upgraded soundproofing for enhanced comfort. A private lavatory is positioned at the rear, and baggage capacity is distributed between nose and tail compartments.
Positioned in the entry-level light jet segment, the Citation M2 offers operators a cost-effective step up from piston and turboprop aircraft, combining proven Citation reliability with updated performance and avionics that make it a strong choice for both owner-operators and charter services.
