Commander Aircraft is the current manufacturer of this design, which has its roots in the Rockwell Commander 114 of 1968. Aero Commander of Bethany, OK, designed the aircraft. The Model 112 was the first of the series and it was built until 1978, when the Commander 114 replaced it.
A 260 hp Lycoming powers the 114/114A/114B. The difference between the 114 and 114A is minor, with the 114A having a 150 pound increase in gross weight and a greater wingspan. The 114B is a restyled 114A with a different propeller, cowling, and redesigned interior.
The main selling point of this series is the nicely appointed, wide, comfortable cabin. With the 260 hp engine, performance is not weak either. There is a turbocharged version, the 114TC, that offers better high-altitude performance and a 270 hp Lycoming.
The current production variants are the normally aspirated 115 and turbocharged 115TC.
