History The DHC-3 Turbine Otter is a larger version of the DHC-2 Beaver. It was produced by De Havilland Aircraft from 1951 to 1967. The original model was fitted with a Pratt & Whitney R1340 Wasp radial engine. It was also modified to utilize a Pratt & Whitney PT-6A-135 engine. The Otter utilizes the same configuration as the Beaver but has incorporated a longer fuselage and a greater wingspan. The Otter can also be fitted with floats and skis and is valued worldwide as a rugged bush and STOL plane. Viking Air of Canada purchased the type certificate and production rights to this and other out-of-production DHC aircraft in 2007. The DCH-3 Turbine Otter was certified in 1952.
