The Boeing Business Jet 737 MAX 8 (BBJ MAX 8) is a long-range VIP derivative of the commercial 737 MAX 8 airliner, building on the lineage of the original BBJ1 (based on the 737-700) and the subsequent BBJ2 and BBJ3 platforms. Officially unveiled in 2016, the BBJ MAX 8 first flew in 2017 with production commencing in the same year. It remains in active production as of 2025.
Compared to earlier BBJ generations, the BBJ MAX 8 incorporates significant airframe and systems upgrades. It features an advanced CFM International LEAP-1B turbofan engine, offering a double-digit improvement in fuel efficiency and lower emissions. The aircraft’s wing has been redesigned with advanced technology split-tip winglets, reducing drag and enhancing performance over long-haul missions.
The BBJ MAX 8 also benefits from structural enhancements that increase its maximum takeoff weight to approximately 181,200 pounds, supporting expanded fuel capacity and a range of 6,555 nautical miles (12,150 km). This marks a substantial increase compared to the original BBJ1, enabling nonstop intercontinental operations between city pairs such as New York and Dubai or London and Santiago.
The cabin, which offers approximately 1,025 square feet of floor space and an estimated total cabin volume around 8000 cubic feet, provides owners with exceptional customization flexibility. The layout can include a master suite, shower, conference and dining areas, and multiple lounges, while maintaining space for up to 19 passengers in VIP configuration.
Positioned as a next-generation solution for government, corporate, and head-of-state transport, the BBJ MAX 8 delivers intercontinental range, modern avionics, and low operating costs within a proven narrowbody airframe — offering an optimal balance between capability, reliability, and operational efficiency.
